With App, Groups Seek Better Way to Report Complaints of Profiling by Airport Security
The coalition said that, at some airports, Sikhs were subject to additional screening 100 percent of the time. The group didn’t identify the airports, but it said the statistic was based on complaints from its members.
But according to data from the Department of Homeland Security, there were only 11 official complaints of discriminatory searches by all passengers in the nation’s airports in the first half of 2011, the most recent period for which data is available.
“We find that to be unbelievable,” said Amardeep Singh, a founder of the Sikh Coalition. “With this app, we are telling the government that this is an issue that you need to address.”
